Activity trackers are proven to successfully motivate exercise, however there is a gap on the market for one designed specifically with the elderly user in mind. A large percentage of this user group rely on walking and public transport to get from A to B, making bus passes one of the top items to be carried around daily, with associations of motion and activity already embedded. The eo embraces this by incorporating a pedometer style activity tracker into a bus pass holder, using the transparent, touch-sensitive luminous material developed by Light.Touch.Matters as a means of creating a simple and intuitive user interface. Human factors research,
co-design with experts and focus groups with the target users themselves all played a crucial role in creating this product, along with extensive electronic and physical prototyping. The eo has been developed to be attractive, convenient and natural to use, as well as to provide motivation through feedback and gamification.
